In addition to the title poem, the collection includes "Aubade," "Address to the Beasts," "Archaeology, " and "No, Plato, No," among others. Mendelson also included an "anti-masque" titled "The Entertainment of the Senses," written in 1973 by Auden and Chester Kallman for a planned production of James Shirley's masque Cupid and Death, as as well two lyrics Auden wrote for the musical Man of La Mancha, but which were rejected by the original librettist.
