Full polished tan calf, covers framed in French fillets with gilt corner devices, spine (relaid) richly gilt in six compartments between raised bands, red morocco lettering piece gilt, top edge gilt, marbled end papers, red silk page marker. An excellent example, square, tight, and unmarked; internally, fresh and bright with tissue guards intact, pages crisp and unspotted, virtually no offsetting from the richly colored plates. First published serially in Rudolph Ackerman's The Repository of Arts, from 1809 to 1813, without plates except for the map of Capri. "The book is often said to contain seventeen or eighteen plates by Rowlandson, but in fact probably only nine are by him, Numbers 1, 3, 8, 10-13, 15 and 16.
