A fictional collection of letters from a "real war bride." Swan was a Scottish journalist, novelist and story writer, mostly under her maiden name but also as David Lyall and later Mrs. Burnett Smith. She was a popular writer of romantic fiction and published more than 200 novels, serials, short stories and other fiction between 1878 and her death, in 1943. She was politically active throughout her life, as a suffragist, a Liberal activist, and a founder-member and vice-president of the Scottish National Party. N. B.
