Whitaker was the Liz Smith of her day (though she may have demurred), a Los Angeles Times gossip columnist with entrée into Holywood society. This witty guide (Whitaker scorns the home bar,"one of the most deplorable customs that won favor during the Prohibition") was was written to reintroduce post-Prohibition Americans to the "lost art of polite drinking" and send them down the "path of righteous alcoholic etiquette.” Sounds awfully stuffy, but it sparkles with fascinating facts and even rewards with pearls of wisdom. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, carefully preserved in archival, removable mylar sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
