A novella featuring a Monte Carlo gambler who loses his money but wins back his wife. Greene was fascinated by gambling, not only on roulette but on the stock market as well. His interest in numbers even led him to collect automobile registration numbers (as does Bendrix in The End of the Affair). "But what is more important is that Loser Takes All is Greene's first published experiment with extended comedy. And the novel is an attempt to link comedy (especially satire, parody and burlesque) to the religious thriller." (Wobbe) N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
