Originally commissioned by MGM as a movie script. Instead, "Sandburg produced a massive thousand-page epic covering the whole sweep of American history from colonial times through the Revolutionary and the Civil wars. "Imperfect as a novel, the book is nevertheless a great American document, presenting in human terms and in the idiom of Carl Sandburg’s 'swift and furious people' the growth of the American Dream through more than three centuries of our national history." (enotes) N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
