Limited Edition (2,000 unnumbered copies printed, of which 1,200 for sale in Great Britain and 800 in the United States), collecting portraits of Rothenstein's friend and contemporaries (including Max Beerbohm, Joseph Conrad, Sir Edward Elgar, André Gide, Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, T. E. Lawrence, George Bernard Shaw, and H. G. Wells), with accompanying biographical sketches. Royal 8vo (254 x 161mm): [60] pages, with 24 unnumbered leaves of plates. Publisher's sage green cloth over cyan paper-covered boards, pale blue paper labels printed in black to spine and front cover, wove forest green end papers; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; grey-green dust jacket printed in black (unpriced, as issued).
