London: J. Duncombe, 1848. First Edition thus. Decorative Cloth. First Edition (under this title) of a colorful guide to London's underbelly in the mid-1800s. Crown 8vo (182 x 109mm): 131,[1]pp, with folding hand-colored frontispiece (dated March 22, 1822) and woodcuts throughout by George Cruikshank. Original crocodile-textured dark beige cloth, spine titled in gilt ("The Dens of London"), pale yellow coated end papers. An excellent example (minor nick to cloth), tightly bound and clean throughout. Goldsmiths'-Kress 35898. Not in Cohn. Fine. Item #BB2443

Apparently a duplicate, with new title page, of The Dens of London Exposed (the running title of this copy), first published in 1822. The 35-page canting dictionary appear at rear. N. B.
