First Trade Edition, preceded by a limited edition of only 35 copies, including a substantial account of American historical pottery as well as pottery produced by Spode, Wedgwood, Wood & Caldwell, Staffordshire, Leeds, Swansea, Sunderland, Newcastle & Stockton, among other makers. The metallic glazes of English lustreware impart to pottery the effect of iridescence, simulating the appearance of silver, gold, or copper. John Hancock of Hanley, Staffordshire, began applying the new metal platinum to pottery at the Spode manufactory in about 1800, creating for the middle class tea services almost identical to those of silver. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, carefully preserved in archival, removable mylar sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
